Old Monastery Walem: After years of vacancy, the historic monastery at Koning Albertstraat 60-62 in Walem (Sub-municipality of Mechelen (Belgium)) is getting a new future. Thanks to a close collaboration between the town and developer Fullerstone, the former monastery will be redeveloped into a modern residential project. Maintenance of St. Rombouts Cathedral: In recent weeks, you couldn’t miss it: St. Rombouts Cathedral, the icon of Mechelen, was once again under scaffolding. Mechelenians looked up curiously and wondered, “What’s happening again? Are there problems with the roof?” When I got the chance to take a look myself at 43 meters high, I didn’t hesitate for a moment. Hommage aan Louis Neefs op top locatie aan Sint-Romboutskathedraal in Mechelen
Mechelen is honouring one of its most iconic residents, Louis Neefs, with a new work of art. The bronze bust of the cabaret singer, located under the majestic Sint-Romboutstoren tower, was installed in consultation with the family. Louis Neefs, born in 1937 in Gierle, became an icon of Flemish music and played an important role in Mechelen’s local politics and culture.
