Tourism in the city of Mechelen has increasingly been on the wish list for an exciting city trip or weekend getaway in recent years . Mechelen in the list of European Cities of the Future

In 2016, the authoritative business magazine Financial Times promoted Mechelen as one of the European Cities of the Future. As the only Flemish central city, Mechelen featured three times in the list of European Cities of the Future. Among the 55 smaller European cities selected, Mechelen was in the top ten no less than three times. Several categories including“Best Micro City for Connectivity“, as“Best Micro City over all” and also for“Best Micro City for economic potential“.
